Meet The Fix Botanicals
THE INTERVIEW
Written by Boston Women’s Market & Erica Lange
Boston Women’s Market: Can you tell us a bit about what led you to begin your journey with The Fix Botanicals? Was there an aha! Moment?
Helen Abraha & Ashley McClue: The journey to The Fix Botanicals started from a place of real necessity. We were frustrated with mainstream skincare products that simply weren’t delivering the results we sought, whether we were battling acne or dealing with dry skin. The frustration sparked curiosity, and that curiosity became action. After diving deep into the world of natural ingredients, we decided to create our own skincare solutions, and that’s how The Fix Botanicals was born. The real "aha!" moment came when we realized we could formulate products that truly worked for our skin. If they worked for us, we thought, they could help others too.
BWM: For many women starting out in the entrepreneurial world, there can be a lot of self-doubt. Do you have any personal stories about how you conquered self-doubt? What guidance would you give to others?
Helen & Ashley: Self-doubt has definitely been a challenge for us, like it is for many entrepreneurs. However, we’ve learned that the key to overcoming it lies in understanding that we create our own reality. It’s about believing in your vision, even when things feel uncertain, and allowing room for mistakes, because that’s where growth happens. Instead of letting self-doubt hold us back, we’ve learned to take action, trust ourselves, and stay adaptable. We now embrace the mindset that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as we’re learning and evolving from them.
BWM: A mentor can play an integral role in someone’s career progression and personal growth. Did you have a mentor that influenced where you are today?
Helen & Ashley: We didn’t have a traditional mentor guiding us, but what we do have is a deep connection to our spirituality. We trust in the universe and believe in its timing and guidance. This spiritual trust has been our guiding light, allowing us to stay grounded and focused in both life and business. In a way, the universe has been our mentor, helping us navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship with faith and resilience.
BWM: Many women begin their small business journey as a way to seek fulfillment they may not be getting in their 9-5 job. Others aren't sure where to begin and need help "digging deeper" to find what it is that fills their cup. What are some steps someone can take today to begin that journey of discovery?
Helen & Ashley: The first step toward self-discovery is giving yourself the space to explore what really excites you. Whether it’s trying out new hobbies, learning new skills, or just taking some time to reflect on what makes you feel fulfilled, every little bit helps. Journaling or meditating can bring clarity to what truly brings you joy and purpose. We’ve also found that connecting with like-minded communities and diving into inspiring podcasts, books, or workshops can be incredibly motivating. The important thing is to start small and stay curious about where your journey might lead you. You never know what you might discover about yourself along the way!
BWM: We think the stories of failure are just as important as the stories of success. Can you talk about a time that you failed in an entrepreneurial venture or objective? How did you face and overcome this failure? What was the lesson learned?
Helen & Ashley: One of our biggest challenges has been recognizing that not everything will be perfect—and that’s perfectly fine! Early on, we found ourselves caught up in trying to manage every detail, but that drive for “perfection” only led to burnout and frustration. The key lesson we’ve learned is the value of trusting the process and maintaining consistency, even when things don’t unfold as expected. We realized it’s really about maintaining perspective and finding the silver linings in every situation so by embracing imperfections, we’ve been able to grow and continue moving forward!
BWM: Do you have a favorite moment so far with The Fix Botanicals? Where you really felt like you were on the right path?
Helen & Ashley: One of our favorite moments with The Fix Botanicals has been the freedom to express our creativity and watch our ideas come to life. It’s incredibly fulfilling to take something from a concept and turn it into a product that others can enjoy. We knew we were on the right path when it stopped feeling like "work" and became something that felt aligned with our passion. The process of researching, developing, and bringing products to market has been incredibly enjoyable. It’s in those moments, when we’re fully immersed in the creative flow, that we feel most aligned with our mission.
BWM: How have you continued to manage the growth of your business while also finding time and ways to invest in yourself?
Helen & Ashley: Juggling life’s responsibilities can be tough for all of us. As we work to grow our business, we know it’s just as important to invest in ourselves. We’ve learned the value of setting boundaries and carving out time for self-care. Whether it’s hitting the gym, enjoying a night out with friends, or diving into a passion project, these moments recharge our spirits and fuel our creativity. When we take care of ourselves, we can show up even better for our business and each other.
BWM: If our community wants to dive deeper into empowering their own journey, what resources do you offer?
Helen & Ashley: At The Fix Botanicals, we’re committed to offering more than just products—we’re here to share valuable knowledge. In today’s world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the constant flow of information, and we aim to simplify things. Through our social media and newsletters, we provide clear, practical tips on natural skincare, self-care rituals, and holistic wellness. Our goal is to educate and empower our community, helping you understand the benefits of natural ingredients and how to effortlessly incorporate them into your daily routine for both inner and outer well-being.
BWM: From one small business owner to another, what is your favorite go-to business tool or resource you can recommend to our community?
Helen & Ashley: One of our favorite business tools is Canva. It’s an incredibly user-friendly platform that allows us to create professional-looking marketing materials, from social media graphics to product labels, even with limited design experience. It has been a game-changer for small businesses like ours that need to make an impact without spending a lot on graphic design services.
BWM: What is your go-to Podcast or book of the moment ( besides your own of course!)?
Helen & Ashley: One of our go-to books right now is “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. It’s a powerful read on how small habits can lead to big transformations. It’s all about building systems that help you achieve your goals—both personally and professionally—and we have found it incredibly motivating in shaping how we approach business growth and self-development.
BWM: Anything else you'd like to share?
Helen & Ashley: We’d also like to add that entrepreneurship is a journey that requires patience, resilience, and a lot of self-trust. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, but it’s just as important to celebrate your wins—no matter how small—and stay aligned with your "why." For us at The Fix Botanicals, that "why" has always been about helping people feel confident in their own skin, and that’s what continues to drive us every day. What makes this journey even more special is that we’re doing it together as best friends/sisters. Sharing this experience has made the highs even more rewarding and the challenges easier to overcome, and we’re constantly inspired by the vision and mission we’ve built side by side.
